Practice makes perfect and patience is key

Mon Jul 14, 2008, 2:27 PM
I have been going back and forth from using my sketchbook, to using my PC...and back and forth again. I have been severely lacking inspiration, and to tell you all the truth, I haven't had any REAL inspiration since before I graduated high school.....folks, that was a little of 7 years ago. So, with trying to balance a busy schedule with three kids, a husband, a house to keep up....etc...to trying to sit down and really think about what truly inspires me to draw, what doesn't, and what exactly I need to do to get that inspiration back....I can say, I have been running circles in my mind.
Since our recent move to a new house, where I actually have a front porch that I can go out and sit on, I have been taking advantage of just sitting and taking in my environment. I have been looking at different things outside and now promising myself that I am going to take some time out of my day, to go out there with a sketchbook and pencil, and just draw one thing everytime I go out there. Today, was the first day I took the good ol' sketchbook outside and my first project, a birdhouse that I have hanging from my porch. The design, the shape and the things surrounding said birdhouse are very basic and I believe 'basic' is where I need to start at this present time. This being because I often find myself rushing through the hard stuff to get to the exciting things like, being done. :| Truth is, nearly everything I have drawn, painted, what have you, has suffered because of my lack for patience. Patience is pretty much a big necessity one should possess in the world of art....and yes, I am working on it.
So, I am going to discipline myself, and with school coming up...that should help out a lot too. I find myself getting very frustrated a lot of the time and that is because I don't know as much as I would like to when it comes to using my tablet and the photoshop and paintshop programs. So, those things is where schooling will help, among other things.....
Nevertheless, I keep practicing. I guess you could say its one of those 'never give up' type of situations.
Anyway, back to my real-life drawings outside that I am turning into a bit of an art project....well, once I have completed a few of these drawings of different things, I am going to post the results up.

This time, I AM TAKING MY TIME....which I am sure the majority of you will agree that patience and all of that plays a key role in producing beautiful works of art.

With Regards,

Michelle
